Need to know:
Big Pig Little Pig (aka Big Pig Canteen) opened back in 2015 and have been serving delicious low and slow Southern American BBQ. Their venue is spacious as they’ve transformed a warehouse into a canteen with a great outdoor beer garden too. Inside, they have some great sized booths, tables and a great kid’s corner. The kid’s corner has two video game units, some toys and colouring. The kids can also get comfy on their bean bags and they also have ABC Kids on TV!
They have all the amenities to keep families and kids occupied. Aside from their kid’s corner, they have several high chairs, baby change facilities and plenty of room to manoeuvre a pram. Their outdoor beer garden has a sunshade to block some of the sun too. Their menu has some wonderful options to either order a platter to share or order individually. There is no table service and you need to pay for your meals at the cashier and drinks at the bar. They have some wonderful promos such as wings night (Wednesday) or Kids Eat Free (Fridays) and have live music on Sunday afternoons. They highly recommend booking and dining before 7pm for dinner to avoid peak periods.
Our latest visit:
We headed in on a Saturday for an early dinner. We booked ahead and noticed that most tables had reservations. We were seated nearby the Kid’s Corner. Other than the kid’s corner, the other remarkable feature was the bar. It gives a really great atmosphere to the venue and the “Beer” lights look fantastic. They’ve definitely have a great atmosphere and most noticeably there were other families there at the same time dining.
We loved to try a little bit of everything and that’s why we usually order a platter when it comes to BBQ. We ordered the Family Fun Platter for $65. It includes 200g beef brisket, 300g pulled pork, two small mac & cheese, cheese kransky, six chicken wings, basket of chips, white bread and a large coleslaw. We also ordered a potato salad, as I knew my kids were likely to prefer this over coleslaw. At the cashier, I also collected our side plates and condiments to return to our table.
Our platter arrived promptly and a couple of the sides followed shortly after. The plating looked really appetising and we were keen to dig in. It was all delicious and the highlights were the beef brisket and the mac and cheese. My daughter absolutely favoured the brisket and ate most of our serving! The mac and cheese had a delicious sharp taste and was the first thing that my son finished. The flavours of the kransky, pulled pork and chicken wings were delicious too. All of the slow cooked meat was perfection. I also absolutely loved the potato salad too. My son who is usually a grazer, tried a variety of the items from the platter and ate a substantial amount for him.
While we had brief dealings with staff, due to no table service; all staff members were friendly and helpful! This is a genuinely family friendly venue and definitely up there for us! We highly recommend heading down!
