It’s time for a new era for Bayside Pizza. The locals are sad to farewell Nick into retirement after 43 years and he leaves his legacy in safe hands with new owner, Cap and head chef George, who has 20 years experience in the finest restaurants in Melbourne.  Nick remains on board for the next few months sharing his secrets for the perfect pizza, that the locals have grown to love. The pizza menu including his famous secret pizza remain the same. Cap is the first person to learn Nick’s perfected dough recipe.

With new owners, comes change and understandably, some people aren’t always ready to come on board straight away. It’s tough stepping into shoes as big as Nick’s and we think they’ve done a wonderful job. Nick trusts Cap to take on this legacy and we have faith that he will do a superb job at it!  The hours have changed, but as a newly established business, this isn’t always going to be the case. They are focusing on being a destination to dine in and not just a takeaway or delivery service. They have a lot of plans for the future and it only looks positive for them.

We love their positive changes, including their well balanced kid’s menu. We know first hand they are a friendly and welcoming venue for families, with ample space for prams, high chairs and a great value menu with delicious food. The venue remains tired and dated, but it’ll be revamped in due course, bringing to life it’s wonderful new legacy. If it wasn’t for Cap, Bayside Pizza would have been retired along with Nick!

Our latest visit:

I read over and over the sadness from locals in Facebook groups to hear that Nick was retiring. Nick is known as a local hero and his secret pizza had its own legacy. Nick is loved by all and he worked long hours to bring you the best pizza in Bayside at all hours of the night! This hero was due for retirement and we congratulate him on his achievements. Cap, a single father, steps into big shoes and is a local himself. He ate Nick’s pizzas and understood his dedication to Bayside Pizza. Cap brings you the same passion with fresh vibrate energy.

I went in for a spontaneous dinner midweek. I was warmly welcomed by staff and seated. On his day off, Cap also approached us and welcomed us too! We visited during one of their Pasta night promos, so the choice was easy to order their signature seafood pasta. It included the chef’s selection of crustaceans and shellfish with olive oil, garlic, chilli, parsley and lemon. I ordered the homemade meatballs and spaghetti for my son and Cap’s gourmet vegan pizza (Tomato, Spinach, Pumpkin, Mushrooms, Olives, Grilled peppers, Red onion, Garlic and Oregano) for my daughter. 

Food was prompt and beautifully presented. Most importantly, it was delicious! The kid’s meal serving size was huge and was a welcomed leftovers for lunch the next day! My son enjoyed trying a bit of everything too, including prawns, squid and vegan pizza! Staff continued to be attentive! I’ve had my fair share of vegan pizza and I can tell you that this has been the best one that I’ve had. Cheese is a crucial element for pizza and there is no substitute for that. Cap’s gourmet vegan pizza does not feel like it’s missing anything at all. 

I ordered the secret pizza to go and if you don’t know much about it, I’ll share a little secret that it includes some familiar Italian flavours in a calzone. The secret pizza itself has its own legacy and it is very delicious! They currently are running a free gelato scoop for any kids that dine in and we had it to go too! The staff are very warm, friendly and attentive!  These guys are ready to prove themselves as worthy and we can say with certainty, that they’re keeping the legacy alive but adding a fresh new vibrate future to it! We wish you all the best Nick for your retirement and we welcome you and your team, Cap to Bayside Pizza!
