Need to know:

True South, situated directly across the road from the foreshore, once used to be an auto repair shop and where the True South Micro-Brewery was born, offer an allround inviting venue for get togethers and family dining. The venue has become a favourite amongst the locals for their modern Argentinean/South American menu, together with its popular brews and cocktails on offer. Their food is designed to be shared with a mix of small or large dishes and is fresh, delicious and bursting with flavour.

They have all the amenities to keep the little ones happy, such as high chairs, space for prams, change table and a great kids menu. The kids menu is definitely a favourite of ours and offers great value and healthier options. For $15, select from Chipa, Chicken Skewers, Calamari, Pulled Pork Burger or Meatballs served with chips or salad, a soft drink and dessert (ice cream). They also offer a kids platter with veggie sticks, cold meat, cheese and dip served with corn chips. Their menu also doubles as a colouring page, with favourite characters such as batman and minions. We feel that you also won’t need to limit your choices for the kids to the kids menu, as there are great options on the main menu to share. They have a great selection of dairy free, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.

As this is a popular local destination, it is highly recommended to book (to request high chairs and a place for prams, but also to dine before 5.30pm to minimize wait times from the busy kitchen). They definitely are a destination for local meet ups, but absolutely do welcome children and make them comfortable.

Our latest visit:

I headed there with the kids for a meeting on Friday evening. We arrived just before 4.30pm and were promptly welcomed and attended to. We sat in a booth and immediately were offered the kids menu with crayons that doubles as a colouring page. Shortly after, we discussed the kids menu in detail, in order to decide what to order for the kids. We decided to order the meatballs with chips for the kids to share and I ordered Moros y Cristianos (Rice, black bean, sweet corn, spring onion, avocado salad).

Food arrived very promptly and it was delicious!  The meatballs were wholesome and the salad was refreshing. The meatballs were a hit with the kids. The venue filled up very quickly, so I would definitely suggest arriving and to order before 5.30pm to avoid delays from the kitchen. We completed our visit with some ice cream (served with sprinkles) for my son.

The staff were genuinely friendly, despite being extremely busy and the food was wonderful. We definitely feel they have all the offerings to make kids comfortable during the visit. Head in between 3pm-6pm Mon-Thurs to take advantage of their happy hour. We can genuinely understand why this is a very popular meeting place, attracting locals for a quick drink and bite to a relaxed family dinner. They sure know how to please everyone.

What they do well:

– Healthy options on the kids menu
– Delicious food
– They know their local area well and cater to this
